Dove Cottage, Grasmere

Dove Cottage can be found at Grasmere in the Peak District. From 1799 to 1808 it was the home of William Wordsworth and his sister Dorothy, and was where Wordsworth wrote some of his best-known poems.

This postcard features a colourised photo of the cottage, with the location noted in type on the top left. On the back is a message written in black ink dated 6th September 1921. The message reads:

"We are having a glorious time; lovely weather which makes all the difference. Today we have been round Keswick, Windermere, Grasmere etc. We went on Derwentwater; suppose you know the route. Yours Hilda S."

The postcard is addressed to Miss Edith Capell, 8 St George Avenue, Northampton". There is a red George V three halfpence stamp in the top right.
