Harbour Entrance, Whitby

This vintage postcard, from 1933, depicts the harbour entrance at Whitby in north Yorkshire. A small boat with a sail is visible in between the entrance to the harbour, with the lighthouse on the right.

In the background on the left hand side can be seen the ruins of Whitby Abbey on the top of the cliffs, and the church of St Mary in the middle.

The back of the postcard includes a message, handwritten in black ink, which reads:

"Whitby
We are here for a few days. I hope you & Boy (?) will come over when we come home - providing there are no more ups or downs. Hope Harry is better & your [sic] all well. Love from Clara".

The postcard is addressed to H.W. Bundon (or possibly Burton) at Elis Cottage, Church Lane, Wickford.

There is a red King George V one penny stamp and a postmark that shows the day 5th July 1933 (the first "3" is very faint but it's either a 3 or a 0, which would require the King depicted to be Edward VII).
