First Aid to the Injured

This guide to first aid was published in 1938, just a year before the Second World War. Given how many people took part in first aid classes during the war, I have to wonder if this sat on the shelf of a local ARP warden or a first aid volunteer?

This vintage book has black cloth boards with "First Aid to the Injured" and the icon for The St John Ambulance Association in white. The white colour has faded and rubbed off on the front, and a little on the text on the spine.

Inside the book is a fold-out diagram of the human body showing bones and arteries. The first page has been cut out (presumably there was a dedication that someone wanted to collect) but the title page and all other pages appear to be intact. There is also a small tear at the bottom of the title page.

The spine is cracked in several places but the pages are all secure and none appear to be loose or missing. The pages themselves appear to be surprisingly clean, with no obvious marks or written notes, and with only a small amount of foxing on the last page and inside back cover.

Although this is a well-loved book it is in good condition. It would be a nice gift for a trainee first aider, or perhaps someone who has supported The St John Ambulance Association.
