St Martin's Church Canterbury

This lovely colourised vintage postcard dates from 1908 and depicts the churchyard of St Martin's Church in Canterbury, although the church itself is significantly obscured by a large tree on the right hand side. You can still see this view on Google Maps but with the trees grown bigger.

The back of the postcard includes a long message in black ink which reads:
"Dear Nell, I am sending you this view, just to see if you remember it. We are having plenty of rain about here, I am having a nice time of it, and enjoying myself. I hope you are both well, I have [illegible] across our house, kind love to you both, pleased to hear you have been [illegible]. Yours sincerely [illegible]."

The card is addressed to Mrs J. Scarfe of 11 Northgate Cottages, Bury St Edmunds. There is a green halfpenny Edward VII stamp and a postmark that reads 19th July 1908.
