Queen of Nine Days

Lady Jane Grey is known as the Nine Day Queen due to the short length of her reign, between the death of King Edward VI and the recognition of Queen Mary I.

This book, written in the voice of "Margaret Brown, gentlewoman" and "edited and done into modern English by Edith C. Kenyon" is an historical fiction recounting the life of Margaret and her time living with Lady Jane Grey. Edith Kenyon was a Victorian author who wrote various moral books for children.

This book has bright red cloth boards with a small colour picture of a woman and man on the front cover, with the title and a decorative outline in green. There are a few bumps on the corners and the top and bottom of the spine but otherwise the cover is relatively clean.

Inside the spine is in very good conditon with no signs of cracking, the binding is tight and all pages are present. There is quite a lot of foxing on the very last page, and some light foxing on the text block, but otherwise the pages are relatively clean with no pen or pencil marks.

There is one colour illustration opposite the title page, and another between pages 138 and 139, but there is no list included with the contents so I can't tell if any others are missing.

On the inside front cover is a dedication in black ink that reads; "Phyllis Scott from Bethel Sunday School, Stonham Parvam uly 25th 1917". Therefore although there is no publication date mentioned, this book must have been published in 1917 or earlier.

Overall this book is in very good condition for it's age (just three years off 100!), and would make a good gift for anyone who loves the history of Lady Jane Grey or the Tudors.
